Luvly and Stellantis pair up to evaluate flat-pack quadricycle tech

European automotive giant Stellantis has paired up with Swedish start-up, Luvly, to explore expanding its microcar line-up.

Stellantis brands currently sell the Citroen Ami, Fiat Topolino and Opel Rocks, identical quadricycles designed for urban use, but is understood to be seeking ways to expand its micromobility offering.

Luvly has a patented ‘flat-pack’ manufacture method, and the chassis of its sole model, the O, comprises large composite panels paired with outward-mounted aluminium joining bars. Components including the vehicle’s suspension, motors, and body panels are then attached in a manner not dissimilar to Ikea furniture.

Stellantis is exploring this technology for potential use in its all-electric runabouts, and has signed a two-year commercial agreement with the Stockholm-based firm to evaluate the use of its technologies in future quadricycles; the category in which which these micro-cars fall.

Speaking to mobility publication, Zag Daily, Luvly founder CEO, Håkan Lutz, said: “The whole automotive industry is waking up to face a world that is rapidly changing in terms of what users expect and demand from products, and some are more alert to this than others.”

“This is the first major commercial partnership with a player as pivotal as Stellantis. If we manage to prove the level of safety and the economics of our platform and Stellantis chooses to adopt it, that is a major thing, not only for us, but for the industry.”

The Luvly O has yet to go on sale. However, the company website promises that it will return a 62-mile range from a 6.4kWh battery, and have a top speed of 56mph. Stellantis is expected to verify Luvly’s claims later in 2025. According to Luvly, the O will be priced from €10,000 (£8,400). Meanwhile, the Citroën Ami is priced from £7,695, and the Europe-only Fiat Topolino and Opel Rocks Electric begin at around €9,890 and €7,990 respectively.

Luvly is now in the process of raising €5 million in equity, which will be used for the continued scaling of sales and marketing, plus R&D and testing.

Toyota recently announced it too was looking at entering the micro-car segment, showcasing the FT-Me concept car at its recent Kenshiki tech forum.
