KGM Musso EV arrives as UK’s cheapest electric pick-up truck
KGM has announced that its Musso EV will go on sale this May priced as the UK’s cheapest all-electric pick-up.
Priced from £42,495 after government grants, the new KGM Musso EV shares its name with the brand’s long-standing pick-up, but is based on the all-electric underpinnings of the existing Torres EVX SUV.
The Korean 4×4 specialist says the new Musso EV will combine the strength and practicality of a traditional pick-up while bringing SUV-like comfort.
Unlike the Torres EVX, the Musso EV features permanent all-wheel-drive as standard courtesy of a twin-motor setup which replaces the SUV’s single front-mounted unit.
The two motors deliver a combined 204bhp and 250lb ft, which allow for what KGM calls “serious towing strength and practical payload capacity”. The Musso EV’s towing capacity is 2,300kg, while its maximum payload is 690kg. That gives it more pulling power than the upcoming Toyota Hilux BEV, although its load capacity is less. The Isuzu D-Max EV, meanwhile, offers higher load and towing capacities.
In the Musso’s favour, an 80.6kWh battery delivers a maximum range of 240 miles – substantially more than its rivals. Peak DC 120kW charging allows for a 20-80% recharge in 31 minutes.
KGM Musso EV review: Is the commercial EV market finally picking up?
At £42,495 – including VAT and the £2,500 Plug-in Van Grant – the Musso also significantly undercuts the D-Max and Hilux BEV, both of which are expected to cost in the region of £60,000 when they arrive later this year.
All versions of the Musso EV will feature self-levelling suspension and vehicle-to-load ability, allowing owners to power appliances and tools from the truck’s drive battery. Inside, all models will feature twin 12.3-inch displays for instruments and infotainment, and will get heated and cooled seats as standard.
Kevin Griffin, managing director of KGM Motors UK, said: “The launch of Musso EV represents a major step forward for KGM in the UK, setting new standards for capability and innovation in the pickup market. Its combination of usable electric range, towing and payload capacity, and driver convenience features, it gives both fleet and private customers a genuinely compelling alternative to diesel.”
