The Hyundai Kona Electric is now eligible for the UK Government’s full £3,750 Band one Electric Car Grant (ECG), reducing starting prices from £35,000 to £31,250 when applied.
Previously, Hyundai’s best-selling B-segment SUV qualified for the £1,500 Band 2 Electric Car Grant. Following a review of the environmental credentials surrounding the Kona Electric’s supply chain and manufacturing process, the decision was taken to upgrade it to the full amount.
The Hyundai Kona Electric is available with a 65.4kWh battery that offers up to 319 miles of range on a single charge, paired with a 215bhp motor.
The Hyundai Kona Electric is available in four trim levels: Base-spec Advance, mid-tier N Line, then Ultimate and the range-topping N Line S.
Following the announcement that the Kona Electric now qualifies for the full Electric Car Grant, Hyundai UK president, Ashley Andrew, said: “The Kona Electric has always offered one of the most compelling combinations of range, practicality and value in its class, and now it’s greater value than ever.
“The £3,750 grant is a meaningful contribution towards the cost of going electric, and the first step to welcoming more models from our line-up into the scheme as the year progresses.”
The two bands of the Electric Car Grant are based on the vehicle’s environmental credentials.
Band 1 cars will qualify for the full £3,750 discount while band 2 cars will get a £1,500 reduction. The banding will be based on verified “Science-Based Targets” on carbon emissions linked to vehicle and battery production.
Built at Hyundai’s Nošovice plant in the Czech Republic, the Kona Electric is the first Hyundai model to benefit from the Band 1 ECG.
