Hyundai Ioniq 5 N DK Edition hyperhatch drops at Tokyo Auto Salon
A special ‘Drift King’ edition drift of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 N has been unveiled at the Tokyo Auto Salon.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N DK Edition has been created in conjunction with Japanese professional racing driver, Keiichi Tsuchiya and brings a host of hardware changes to Hyundai’s award-winning performance EV.
Alongside his two class wins at the 24 Hours of Le Mans, Tsuchiya earned the nickname of ‘Drift King’ thanks to his drifting skills and involvement in the Initial D manga and anime series.
This ‘DK (Drift King) Edition’ version of Hyundai’s mega-hatch was revealed on Friday, January 10 at the Tokyo Auto Salon 2025.
The South Korean manufacturer has not announced any upgrades to the Ioniq 5 DK Edition’s all-wheel drive powertrain. As such, the car will retain the standard Ioniq 5 N’s 641bhp, 546lb ft of torque, 0-62mph time of 3.4 seconds, and top speed of 162mph.
Instead, the N division has focused on upgrading the car’s hardware to ensure ‘enhanced track handling’ and a ‘more agile driving’ experience. H&R lowering springs drop the Ioniq 5 N’s ride height by 15mm front and back, while the spring rate has been increased by an undisclosed number.
The car’s braking system has been upgraded with six-piston monoblock aluminium alloy calipers up front covering 54% more of the brake disc than on the standard car. The rear brakes have also been improved. All calipers are finished in dark green, and are exclusive to the DK Edition.
New 21-inch aluminium wheels are another bespoke piece of kit, and remove 10 kilograms from the standard Ioniq 5 ‘s 2,225kg kerb weight. Hyundai and Tsuchiya have also developed a blacked-out, full carbon fibre bodykit comprising a huge Group B-style gooseneck spoiler, diffuser, side skirts, and front splitter.
The bodykit is not just aesthetic. At 87mph, it will provide 93kg of downforce. When paired with the white paint job, the Ioniq 5 N DK Edition’s black and white finish is more than a nod to the Toyota AE86 – or Toyota Trueno Sprinter Trueno in JDM speak – that starred in Initial D.
The Hyundai Ioniq 5 N DK Edition is set to be only available in South Korea and Japan. There is no news that Hyundai plans to bring the car to Europe or North America in the immediate future.
