Gridserve gains safety approval with Chargesafe accreditation
Leading UK charging network Gridserve has been officially recognised for the safety, reliability and accessibility of its chargers by independent body ChargeSafe.
The chargepoint operator has attained ChargeSafe accreditation which not only acknowledges the standard of its current devices but also recognises Gridserve’s work to develop and improve it at its existing and planned locations.
ChargeSafe is a standalone body that assesses public charge points on a variety of elements affecting user experience, ranging from technical standards to security measures, user safety and overall accessibility. It was launched amid concerns that CPOs were not considering driver safety or comfort in the locations and design of their chargers.
Gridserve’s Electric Forecourts and Super Hubs are already among the best-rated by ChargeSafe’s assessment programme but the CPO said the new accreditation would help it enhance its provision during a “critical” time for EV transition.
Gridserve was founded in 2017 to deliver high-speed EV charging around the UK and in 2020 opened the country’s first dedicated Electric Forecourt. In 2021 it took over the old Ecotricity Electric Highway of chargers at motorway service stations and since then has upgraded and expanded it massively. It now operates more than 1,400 charging bays at 190 locations across the UK, delivering more than 250,000 charging sessions a month.

Rebecca Trebble, chief product officer at Gridserve, said: “The ChargeSafe Accredited Partner status demonstrates our continued focus on delivering a safe, accessible and seamless charging experience with the customer at the heart.
“We always strive to improve our offering through listening to customer feedback and working with partners to enhance our best practice. The ChargeSafe Accreditation is an important milestone in our journey, reinforcing our commitment to safety and accessibility making it easy for everyone to switch to electric.”
Kate Tyrrell, CEO of ChargeSafe, added: “Being a ChargeSafe Accredited Partner isn’t just about meeting standards – it sets Gridserve apart as a leader in user experience as we navigate the EV revolution. By understanding how to deliver electric vehicle charging sites to the ChargeSafe standard, Gridserve is supported to build a network that meets the needs of all users, making the transition to electric equitable for all.”
