Genesis GV60 Magma hits UK roads in July, priced from £76,000
Genesis has confirmed UK pricing for its first high-performance model – the GV60 Magma.
Based on the brand’s first ground-up EV, the Genesis GV60 Magma packs a massive 641bhp and 583lb ft from its twin-motor powertrain.
Delivering 0-62mph in 3.4 seconds, the GV60 Magma will go on sale in the UK in July, priced from £75,915.
Described as a “new chapter” for the nascent Korean brand, the GV60 Magma is its first performance-focused model, intended to tie in with its entry into motorsport through the Genesis Magma Racing team.
The GV60 Magma is based on the same underpinnings as the award-winning Hyundai Ioniq 5 N and Kia EV6 GT but positioned as a more premium option. It’s likely to compete with the likes of the Polestar 4 Performance, BMW iX M60 and Porsche Macan Electric.
Its two-motor setup is powered by an 84kWh battery. There’s no official word on range, but expect a drop from the regular AWD car’s 311 miles, especially if you exploit the car’s 164mph top speed for any length of time.
Like other high-performance cars based on the E-GMP platform, the GV60 Magma features a synthesised soundtrack linked to an “eight-speed” virtual gearshift. This creates the feeling of driving a high-performance petrol car with a sequential gearbox, complete with rev matching and a 9,000rpm limiter. The GV60 Magma also features a dedicated drift mode alongside the more sensible Sprint and GT settings.
On the road the GV60 Magma is lower and wider than the standard GV60, with a 20mm drop in ride height and a 50mm wider track. As well as the launch car’s eye-searing Magma Orange paint, the GV60 Magma stands out from regular models thanks to a dramatic bespoke front bumper with additional aero features, a prominent rear spoiler and 21-inch forged alloy wheels.
Inside, electrically adjustable sports seats have a less aggressive profile than the GV60’s Hyundai or Kia equivalents, to retain some of Genesis’s focus on comfort. The black faux-suede upholstery can be finished in Ash White or Magma Orange contrast stitching. Elsewhere around the cabin, the signature orange finish also features on the bespoke steering wheel’s “Magma” button and even the rotating drive selector is illuminated in the same shade.
Full specification hasn’t been confirmed but we know the Magma will come in just one trim level, likely to be based on the current range-topping Performance trim level. Options will be limited to nine exterior paint colours and two interior stitching choices.
