Genesis GV60 Magma arrives with 641bhp and drift mode

The Genesis GV60 Magma has made its UK debut as the Korean premium brand confirms details of its first dedicated high-performance model.

Set to go on sale in the second half of 2026, the spicy electric crossover is currently on display at the Genesis Studio in Battersea Power Station until early March.

The GV60 Magma is the first in a line of planned high-performance cars from Genesis. Based on the regular GV60 and using hardware shared with the award-winning Hyundai Ioniq 5 N, the GV60 Magma packs a 641bhp all-wheel-drive powertrain and comes with a host of new features to make the most of its prodigious power.

Genesis director Ben Sargeant described the GV60 Magma as “the very best of Genesis”.

At the heart of the GV60 Magma is the twin-motor powertrain putting out 650PS and 583lb ft, delivering a 0-62mph time of just 3.4 seconds. Helping it attain that acceleration time is a bespoke launch control setting.

The GV60 Magma also gets an enhanced version of the boost mode featured in regular versions of the GV60. Accessed via a “Magma” button on the steering wheel, this unlocks the full 641bhp and 583lb ft for 15 seconds at a time – five seconds more than the regular car.

Alongside that, three new driving modes have been developed for the Magma which alter the car’s power delivery and suspension settings for different conditions. Sprint is designed to deliver peak performance for on-track use, while GT is designed to maximise comfort and efficiency. Drift, meanwhile, slackens off traction control and adjusts the power balance to allow for tail-out silliness (in a safe environment, of course).

Similar to the Ioniq 5 N and Kia EV6 GT, the GV60 Magma features Active Sound Design+ and Virtual Gearshift, which combine to create a more engaging driving experience by simulating the sound and feel of a sequential transmission.

To help make the most of all that power and clever drive modes, the GV60’s chassis has been tweaked. The Magma sits 20mm lower than the standard car, with a 50mm increase in track width for better stability. It also gets uprated suspension components and revised settings for the electronically controlled suspension, along with heavy duty monoblock brake callipers and 400mm discs.

Visually, along with the eye-popping Magma Orange paint, the GV60 Magma gets forged 21-inch alloy wheels, an aggressive new front bumper with wings and vents designed to optimise air flow, deep side skirts and a new rear bumper and bold rear wing.

Inside, the GV60’s interior has been updated with dark aluminium trim and black suede bucket seats, along with a retrimmed steering wheel, all finished with orange or white contrast stitching. Magma blends high-quality materials with a driver focused, performance-led aesthetic.

The car’s 27-inch panoramic digital displays feature bespoke Magma graphics which also extend to the head-up display and adapt depending on the drive mode selected.

Orders for the GV60 Magma will open soon, with first UK deliveries expected this summer. Genesis hasn’t indicated a price yet, but based on the current GV60 Performance’s price, we’d expect it to start in the region of £75,000.
