Ford to take on Pikes Peak with Mustang Mach-E Nascar Prototype

Ford is preparing to take on the Pikes Peak hill climb with an all-electric Nascar-based Mustang Mach-E.

Not content with announcing its 2027 return to the top-tier hypercar class at the Le Mans 24 Hours, Ford Performance also unveiled its all-electric Mustang Mach-E Nascar prototype at its 2025 season launch event on January 30.

Looking more like a hot-hatch than its road-going crossover counterpart, the Mustang Mach-E prototype is built around a bespoke carbon tub, and is powered by three electric motors mated to a 78kWh battery. The car also borrows the fine-tuned suspension, brakes, steering, and wheels from its 2024 NASCAR Cup Series title-winning Mustang.

The Blue Oval did not disclose any further technical details or performance figures. However, the Mach-E prototype is expected to produce around 1,420bhp, roughly the same as its electric LCV sibling, the Ford SuperVan 4.2.

Like the all-electric SuperVan 4.2 and the F-150 Lightning-based SuperTruck that came before it, the Mustang Mach-E Nascar prototype will make its competitive debut at Pikes Peak this year. Former LM24 winner, Romain Dumas, will drive the car hoping to break his 2023 class record with the SuperVan.

In 2024, Dumas added to his list of successes at the hillclimb driving Ford EVs at the event after winning the King of The Mountain title with the 1,600bhp SuperTruck.

The Frenchman also holds the record for being the fastest man ever to do the 13.5-mile sprint. In 2018 – driving the Volkswagen ID.R – Dumas set a yet-to-be-broken record of 7m:57.148s.

Pikes Peak will take place on June 22. Ford is expected to announce more details about its latest all-electric challenger closer to the event.
