Alpine Formula 1 driver Pierre Gasly gave the Alpine A110 Future a glowing review after driving the all-electric sports car for the first time at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The A110 Future is a test mule version of the electric Alpine A110, which will launch later this year and go on sale in early 2027.
This year’s FoS marked the car’s public debut, when it was displayed on the French performance manufacturer’s stand and then took to the event’s famous 1.16-mile hillclimb course with the iconic Goodwood House as its backdrop.
Gasly, the winner of the 2020 Italian Grand Prix, was amongst the first to drive the car and had FoS founder, the 11th Duke of Richmond, alongside him as his passenger. Following his run up the hill, the 30-year-old French driver gave the A110 Future a resounding thumbs up.
“Alpine continues to show that an electric sports car can be lighter, sharper, and really enjoyable to drive – it’s all about the lightness [of Alpine], and getting that racing feeling behind the wheel with the electric power,” enthused Gasly. “It was great to be amongst the first to drive the future [of Alpine], and I am certainly excited to see what the future holds.”
A clearly upbeat Gasly also hinted at a drivetrain-agnostic attitude towards cars, prompting suggestions that he’s very much a “car guy”. The six-time F1 podium finisher then went on to describe the Festival of Speed as “the most beautiful car event in the world”.
“It’s such a cool event, and I’m so happy to be here,” he continued to reporters. “I’m just like a kid looking at every single car out there. It’s incredible – I’m having such a great time!”
The electric Alpine A110 will be the first model to ride on the brand’s all-new 800V Alpine Performance Platform (APP), which was designed as the future architecture for all new models post-A110.
Promising “exceptional torque, performance, and ultra-fast control”, the A110’s 3-in-1 pairs dual in-wheel motors with a silicon carbide (SiC) inverter that manages the motors’ performance delivery and regenerative capabilities.
To return that signature Alpine feel Gasly mentioned earlier, a full-aluminium suspension and Alpine’s Active Torque Vectoring 2.0 system are part of the electric A110’s setup.
Paired with Wheel Slip Torque Control, the latter helps reduce understeer at corner entry and mid-corner by managing load transfer and torque levels under acceleration and lift-off.
Speaking to EV Powered at the Alpine factory in Dieppe last year, its CEO, Philippe Krief, revealed that the twin-motor electric A110 will produce over 500bhp, weigh under 1.5 tonnes, and deliver up to 373 miles of range from a single charge.
When it hits the market, the A110 will be Alpine’s third electric-only model alongside the award-winning A290 hot-hatch and the recently launched A390 crossover.
The 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed will run until Sunday, July 12. Meanwhile, Gasly, who recently signed a new contract to remain with Alpine until 2028, sits ninth in the 2026 F1 drivers’ standings on 42 points with a season-best result of third at the Monaco Grand Prix.
Alpine is fifth in the constructors’ on 60 points, just one ahead of Racing Bulls.
