More than 100 left-hand-drive Twingos are landing at Renault dealers as the sub-£20,000 city car counts down to UK order books opening.

Renault’s smallest EV has crossed the Channel in numbers. Left-hand-drive examples of the Twingo E-Tech electric are arriving at Renault retailers up and down the country over the coming days as static display cars, handing buyers a proper look at the little hatchback in the metal well before general ordering opens later this year.

It matters because of where the Twingo will sit. Renault is targeting a starting price below £20,000, which drops it into the same bracket as the Dacia Spring and Leapmotor T03, and it does so with a 27.5kWh LFP battery and a lightweight 80bhp (60kW) motor good for a targeted WLTP range of up to 163 miles. Those figures remain subject to final UK specification and homologation.

A convoy dressed in green

The display fleet runs to more than 100 cars, every one of them finished in Absolute Green. All were brought over from France as one dedicated batch, then loaded onto transporters carrying nothing but Twingos for the run to dealers, which is a nicely theatrical way to signal that a launch is imminent.

Until now, seeing the car in Britain has meant catching one of a handful of set-piece appearances. It made its UK debut at rnlt London Battersea, then took a starring role in the maison renault pop-up on Oxford Street, before making its first big UK event appearance at this year’s Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Enthusiasm has been building steadily since the reveal, in much the same way it did for the Renault 5, a car that has since become the UK’s best-selling EV.

“Interest in Renault EVs is soaring, with Twingo really grabbing people’s attention and following in the footsteps of the Renault 5 and Renault 4,” said Adam Wood, managing director of Renault UK. “Such is the enthusiasm ahead of its official launch, that introducing LHD static display cars to our retailers is a great way to answer customers’ questions and give them an early and highly convenient way to experience Twingo’s unmistakeable style, clever packaging and sheer personality.”

The Twingo has already been busy collecting silverware without selling a single UK car. It was named ‘Electric Car of the Year’ at the TopGear.com EV Awards 2026, judges praising its intelligent simplicity, efficiency, comfort and character, and followed that with ‘Best Small Car’ at the 2026 Autocar Awards, where its packaging, bright cabin and driving manners were singled out.

Urban duty is the brief. Compact outside, the Twingo makes the most of what it has inside via independent sliding rear seats that let owners trade passenger room for luggage space as needed. One Pedal driving features, and OpenR Link with Google built-in is available depending on version, bringing kit usually reserved for far bigger cars down into the A-segment.
