Cupra Raval and VW ID Polo production begins in Martorell, Spain
Production of the Cupra Raval and its sister car, the Volkswagen ID Polo, has started at the Seat & Cupra factory in Martorell, Spain.
Both B-segment hatchbacks are based on the EV-only, MEB+ platform developed as part of the Volkswagen Group’s Electric Urban Car Family – a project spearheaded by Cupra.
The Electric Urban Car Family aims to bring four VW Group EVs to market at around the €25,000 price mark. Alongside the Raval and the ID Polo, the new Skoda Epiq crossover and its sister car, the VW ID Cross, are part of the programme.
The project marks a significant milestone for Cupra, as it seeks to assert itself as the performance-focused arm of the Volkswagen Group since becoming a standalone brand from Seat in 2018.

Volkswagen has invested over €3 billion into the Martorell plant, as it seeks to turn the site into one of Europe’s leading EV production hubs. The investment includes a new, €300 million battery gigafactory capable of producing a new MEB+ battery every 45 seconds, a total of 1,200 daily, and 300,000 annually.
By sharing the site and the MEB+ platform, production and development costs of Electric Urban Car Family models have been slashed by €600m.
“Today marks much more than the start of production of two cars,” said Seat & Cupra CEO, Markus Haupt. “It is a milestone for us, and clear proof of what we can achieve through teamwork.

With the Cupra Raval and the Volkswagen ID Polo, we are not only launching the production of two models, but we are demonstrating our ability to lead and shape the future of mobility.
“We have completed our transformation, investing more than €3 billion in Martorell and driving a profound cultural change to become an industrial powerhouse. And we’re proud to say that we’re ready to electrify Europe from Spain.”
Order books for the Cupra Raval are now open, with a starting price of £23,785 for the entry-level car, and a delivery date of autumn 2026. A similar pricing structure and arrival date for the ID Polo is expected.
