Cinch: Used EV sales up 29% year-on-year in the UK
UK sales of second-hand EVs increased by 29% last year, according to new data from used car specialist Cinch.
Data from the online used-car retailer also showed that average EV prices dropped by 4% between 2024 and 2025, with Cinch saying the latest figures represented a “new phase” of EV adoption.
2025 was another strong year for Tesla, but rivals from Korea and Europe also enjoyed growth as the country’s second-hand EV market continues to mature.
The Tesla Model 3 was Cinch’s best-selling used EV last year, followed by the Nissan Leaf and the Hyundai Kona Electric. This mix of body styles suggests that EV buyers are more focused on a car’s range, price, and standard equipment than a specific body shape.

Tesla was the top-selling carmaker overall in 2025, followed by Volkswagen, Hyundai, Vauxhall, and Kia. According to Cinch, the strong performance of Korean manufacturers “reflects their growing reputation for efficient batteries, long warranties, and competitive pricing”.
Last year’s fastest-selling EVs were the Vauxhall Corsa-e, Mokka-e, and Mercedes EQB, which took the top three spots. The BYD Dolphin was fourth, with the Ford Mustang Mach-E fifth,.
On the back of this recent positive data set, Cinch’s motoring expert, Ben Welham, described it as a turning point for the UK’s used car segment.

“The used EV market is maturing quickly,” he remarked. “Prices are softening, supply is improving, and buyers are realising that electric cars are practical, affordable and enjoyable. This is exactly the kind of momentum the UK needs to accelerate the transition to cleaner transport.
“We’re entering a new phase of EV adoption. The barriers are coming down, and the benefits are becoming clearer. If 2025 was the year EVs gained real momentum, 2026 could be the year they become the default choice for many drivers.”
Alongside buyer focus on EV’s range and value, buyers showed a keen demand for technology and creature comforts. According to Cinch’s data, the most searched-for in-car features last year were Apple CarPlay, parking sensors, heated seats, a sunroof, and in-built navigation.
