The BYD Seal saloon is now the UK’s most searched-for EV online, according to recent data from MoneySuperMarket.
From April 2025 to April 2026, one of the country’s foremost price comparison sites analysed Google search volume for over 200 EVs across more than 200 countries globally.
In the UK, the BYD Seal saloon came out on top with a total of 916,000 Google searches. The best-selling Tesla Model Y ranked second with 897,000 searches, while the ever-popular Tesla Model 3 was third with 661,000 searches.
The Polestar 4 and Porsche Taycan completed the top five, with 647,000 and 600,000 respective searches. Next on the list was the BMW iX3 (596,800 searches) in sixth, the Skoda Enyaq in seventh (561,600 searches), and the Volvo EX30 in eighth (554,200 searches).
The Kia EV3 and Jeep Avenger rounded out the top 10 with 521,200 and 519,200 searches apiece.
Despite the BYD Seal topping the popularity charts, it was the most expensive EV on the list to insure, with the highest average annual premium of £813.12. The Tesla Model 3 was second at £785.24 for the year, while the Model Y was third at £782.16 annually.
At the other end of the scale, the Skoda Enyaq was the most wallet-friendly, costing £537.75 in annual insurance. The Kia EV3 was the second most affordable (£552.03), while the Jeep Avenger ranked third (£552.07).
An alternative to the Tesla Model 3, the BYD Seal saloon went on sale in the UK in November 2023. While not the Chinese automotive giant’s outright best-seller – that prize goes to the Seal U DM-i plug-in hybrid SUV – the four-door Seal saloon is the brand’s best-selling electric-only model.
Brand new, the BYD Seal saloon starts at £45,730 for the entry-level, rear-wheel-drive (RWD) Design model, while the flagship all-wheel-drive (AWD) Excellence trim is priced from £48,730. The car underwent a midlife facelift earlier this year.
