BYD Atto 2 DM-i Super Hybrid to launch un-opposed with 633-mile range
BYD has introduced a plug-in ‘Super Hybrid’ version of its all-electric Atto 2 – when it goes on sale during the first quarter 2026, it will be the only compact SUV PHEV available on the UK market.
The Chinese automotive giant has provided very little details about the Atto 2 DM-i. In addition to confirming that DM-i standard ‘Dual Mode Intelligent’, the Atto 2 DM-i’s Super Hybrid system returns 90 kilometres (56 miles) of electric-only motoring.
When combined with its petrol engine, BYD claims that Atto 2 DM-i’s hybrid drivetrain can achieve a range of “up to” 1,020km – the equivalent of 634 miles.

The DM-i drivetrain “maximises efficiency on longer journeys” and is able to automatically switch through the car’s drivemodes depending on its environment.
Specs are also scant, but when on sale, the BYD Atto 2 DM-i will be available in “different battery sizes, EV and overall range, power outputs, and performance.” This suggests that the figures provided are indicative of the top-spec car, meaning a cheaper version with a smaller battery, and a shorter range is also expected.
Visually, the Super Hybrid is identical to its fully-electric sibling. The only difference is that the PHEV gets a slightly larger grille and re-designed elements in the front bumper.

BYD has also done away with the EV’s front wing side vents, and re-penned the badging on the tailgate. The Midnight Blue paint is also exclusive to the Atto 2 DM-i.
No pricing has been confirmed, but the electric-only Atto 2 (pictured above) is priced from £30,850 and is available with either a 51.1kWh battery or a 64.8kWh unit. Unlike the Atto 2 DM-i, the EV’s rivals include the Skoda Elroq, Kia EV3, and Volvo EX30.
Despite having no direct competitors, BYD will be hoping that the Atto 2 DM-i’s range can attract buyers who would otherwise be considering hybrid options such as the Toyota Yaris Cross, the Volkswagen T-Cross, and the Skoda Kamiq.
