Britain needs you: EVA England survey asks EV drivers to share views on pay-per-mile scheme

Drivers’ organisation EVA England has launched a major new nationwide survey, seeking views on the Government’s pay-per-mile scheme and the state of the country’s public charging network.

EVA England is the national association representing the interests of EV drivers across the country, and says it wants to ensure that any upcoming reforms to the Government’s EV strategy are based on real-world experiences, and not just input from carmakers, energy providers, and infrastructure firms.

Ahead of a major charging review by Westminster, the EVA’s survey seeks to examine how government decisions affect the public’s appetite for switching from petrol or diesel to electric, whether public charging is fairly priced and accessible, and how mileage might be recorded and paid for.

The final point relates to the eVED scheme, which seeks to charge EV drivers 3p per mile from April 2028 to offset falling fuel revenue duty.

Vicky Edmonds, the EVA’s chief executive, said: “With major decisions looming on road pricing and public charging, it is crucial that drivers are not left on the sidelines.

“This survey is about making sure policymakers hear directly from the people who will be most affected. We’re asking drivers to tell us honestly what’s working, what isn’t, and what would make these new systems fair and practical in real life.”

Alongside the survey launch, EVA England announced that it has appointed transport decarbonisation and road pricing policy expert, Natasha Robinson, to its board.

On the back of her appointment, Robinson commented: “I’m incredibly proud to be joining EVA England at such an important time for drivers. Whatever happens as we move towards new ways of paying for our roads, it’s essential that policies like pay-per-mile are designed sensibly and fairly, with drivers at their heart.

“Too often, decisions are made without fully understanding how they will affect people’s daily lives. This survey is a vital opportunity for drivers to make their voices heard and help shape a system that genuinely works for them.”
