Charging network BP Pulse has announced a new partnership to allow EV drivers to earn Avios points when they charge.
The new deal with IAG Loyalty makes BP Pulse the first UK charging network to offer Avios to its customers.
Launched on June 17, the new offering is available at BP Pulse’s network of 3,000 rapid and ultra-rapid chargers around the UK.
Members of the British Airways Club will be able to earn four Avios points for every £1 spent on charging via the BP Pulse app or with a BP Pulse subscription. Those paying with a debit or credit car will earn two points per £1 spent.
Avois is the official reward “currency” of British Airways, as well as Iberia, Aer Lingus, Vueling, Qatar Airways, Finnair and Loganair. Members can also earn by spending with various other companies, including cruise and holiday firms and online retailers. Points can then be exchanged for rewards ranging from discounts on flights to car hire and restaurant vouchers.
BP Pulse and IAG Loyalty said the new partnership aimed to give members more value as increasing numbers of drivers make the switch to electric vehicles.
Valerio Ferro, general manager of bp pulse UK commented: “As EV adoption continues to grow, this partnership adds further value to the charging experience – giving customers a simple way to collect Avios as part of their everyday journeys.”
Rob McDonald, chief commercial officer at IAG Loyalty, added: “Our ambition is to make collecting Avios part of everyday life, and BP Pulse is a logical partner as more members transition to electric vehicles. By linking EV charging with Avios, we’re giving members another way to turn everyday activity into meaningful rewards.”
How it works
British Airways Club members must register their payment cards at avios.com or the Avios app before charging. Once registered, customers will automatically collect two Avios per £1 on eligible transactions, when paying via contactless. Customers using the BP Pulse app, or those with a subscription, get a boosted collection rate of 4 Avios per £1. To benefit from this, customers must ensure they’ve downloaded the app, are signed in, and have also registered a payment card in the app wallet.
