Audi’s electric TT replacement ‘definitely happening’

The head of Audi has committed to his company putting its Concept C two-seater into production before the end of 2027.

In a letter sent to Audi employees Gernot Dollner sought to reassure them that the radical project will go ahead amid rumours that Porsche is watering down its plans for an all-electric Boxster.

The Concept C is being developed alongside Porsche’s next-generation 718 models using the same platform. Claims that Porsche could add an ICE powertrain or drop its EV plans altogether have cast doubt on the future of the Audi model, but Dollner told staff that the Audi model would happen.

“The delivery of the platform by Porsche is not in doubt”, he wrote to employees, adding that the project, known internally as C-Sport, was “proceeding in good collaboration between Team Porsche and Team Audi”.

The Concept C was unveiled in 2025 as a radical reimagining of the TT for the eclectic era. Designed by Massimo Frascella, its sharp simple lines are a major departure from the current overly fussy look of Audi’s models, and mark a return to the clean minimalist look that helped make the original TT a success. Unlike the TT, which was sold as a hard-top coupe or with a folding fabric roof, the Concept C features a retractable metal roof to offer the best of both worlds.

Audi Concept C interior

Like the TT, the Concept C is conceived as a low-slug two-seater with a minimalist interior. The pared-back cabin features a digital driver display – a concept that debuted in the original TT – and a simple central screen, with very little else in the way of distraction.

The Concept C will be built on a heavily modified version of the Audi/Porsche PPE platform which underpins the new A6, Q6 and Macan. Technical details are thin on the ground, but Audi did create a driveable version of the concept car last year. That featured rear-wheel-drive and batteries mounted behind the passenger compartment, where a mid-engined sportscar would have its powerplant.

It is expected that along with a rear-driven version, the production car will come with more powerful all-wheel-drive options bearing the famous quattro name.

When it arrives in 2027, the Concept C will go head-to-head with the new Alpine A110 which, as previously speculated, will use the same underpinnings as the wild Renault 5 Turbo 3E, with twin in-wheel rear motors delivering more than 500bhp.
