Arnold Clark adds six ultra-rapid EV chargers to Newcastle BYD site
UK car dealer network Arnold Clark has installed six ultra-fast chargers at its BYD branch on Scotswood Road, Newcastle.
The new chargers offer charging speeds of up to 150kW, and the site is open to BYD and non-BYD drivers alike. The new site is part of Arnold Clark’s aim to support motorists in switching from diesel and/or petrol to electric, and provide charging infrastructure and support to key locations nationwide.
In addition to reliable charging points, Arnold Clark’s BYD Newcastle hub boasts one of the most competitive ultra-rapid charging rates on the market at 55p/kWh – significantly less than the UK average of 76p/kWh.
Payments can be made easily via the Arnold Clark app, roaming partners, or by contactless payment at the chargepoints. While their vehicles are charging, users can get a free coffee from the adjacent BYD showroom.
At the 2025 Zapmap Awards, Arnold Clark’s customer-centric approach and expansion to 50 charging sites nationwide earned it the title of ‘Up-and-Coming Rapid/Ultra-rapid EV Charging Network’.

Ahead of the latest roll-out, Arnold Clark’s sustainability manager, Pablo Levi, said: “The opening of our new ultra-rapid chargers in Newcastle is another important step in expanding Arnold Clark Charge across the UK.
“We want to make electric vehicle charging as simple, affordable and accessible as possible, whether customers are travelling locally or on longer journeys.
“By investing in ultra-rapid infrastructure at key locations like this, we’re helping to support the transition to electric vehicles while delivering real benefits for drivers and local communities.”
The Arnold Clark/BYD announcement also ties in with the Chinese automotive giant’s plan to bring its 1000kW flash charging to the United Kingdom later this year.
At the launch of the Sealion 5, BYD UK’s country director, Bono Ge, confirmed that the 1000kW chargers will be introduced alongside BYD’s premium Denza brand towards the end of 2026.
Capable of delivering up to a megawatt of power and compatible with BYD’s Super-E platform and 10C battery, this ultra-rapid charging delivers 1.2 miles of range per second, or 250 miles in five minutes.
