Polestar Slash their Carbon Footprint for EVs by 25%
Swedish electric vehicle manufacturer Polestar have announced that they have reduced their carbon footprint for electric vehicles by 24.7%.
This milestone helps to showcase their commitment to sustainable innovation, while showing how dedicated they are to eliminating greenhouse gas emissions. It’s their aim to achieve carbon neutrality by 2040.
A Greener Shift is Happening
Even though Polestar have shown that they are embracing the green movement, this is just really reflective of a broader economic shift. If you look at the entertainment sector, for example, you will notice that streaming platforms like Netflix have much lower overheads when compared to traditional cinemas. While data centers powering them do consume energy, studies have shown that the carbon footprint of streaming is substantially lower, showing how entire infrastructures are moving to greener alternatives without compromising service offerings.
In other verticals, like iGaming, online casinos have also shown that there are sustainable alternatives that can be explored. Unlike traditional casinos that require HVAC systems, power, and lighting, online platforms offer thousands of games with a lower carbon footprint. Casino offers and promotions like free spins or deposit matches have also helped to boost player engagement without the cost of large-scale events and travel as well. Not only does this help casinos to access a bigger user demographic, but it also allows them to do so without increasing their carbon footprint. Interestingly, trends like this are converging as well.
Modern electric vehicles are not only becoming greener to make, but they are also integrating streaming services and gaming platforms within their infotainment systems. This shows how green trends can have a knock-on effect on other sectors, and for companies like Polestar, it’s helped them to create greener models that still harness the latest technology. Polestar, in particular for example, offers Android Automotive OS, which includes Prime Video, YouTube, and more through the Vivaldi Web Browser.
Polestar’s Strong Environmental Focus
Since the company began measuring its environmental focus in 2020, they have reduced their carbon footprint per sold car by nearly 25%. Significant contributors here include using low-carbon aluminium in all of their models, as well as making improvements to battery manufacturing. Renewable energy is also being used in the manufacturing process of all models, with increased biofuels on certain ocean routes. Polestar, like other companies that operate in different sectors, have shown that it is possible to detach growth from environmental impact. They also aim to do this in the future. Even though Polestar have the aim of creating a climate-neutral car, they also want to become completely climate-neutral by 2040. They also have the aim of producing a Polestar 2, which is 10 tonnes lower in carbon when compared to when the project as a whole started.
Not only is this helping to set the standard for other electronic car manufacturers, but it also helps to show how much potential there is in the market to offer more, without increasing environmental footprint. As time goes on, we can expect to see the company double down or create even more efficient cars that do not miss out on the latest tech features or advances.
