Formula E 2025/26: Early Recap, PIT BOOST & Rookie Test
The 2025/26 Formula E season has delivered plenty of talking points during the first five races.
Reigning Formula E champion Oliver Rowland is among the drivers who have clinched podium finishes in the all-electric series this term.

After steadily moving up the ladder from outside the leading group, Evans took the lead late on and controlled the final laps to secure a comfortable win for Jaguar TCS Racing.
The championship then moved to Jeddah for a double-header, with Wehrlein winning his 100th Formula E race for Porsche in the fourth round. Antonio Felix Da Costa won round five.
PIT BOOST Returns to Formula E
Formula E and the Federation Internationale de l’Automobile (FIA) have confirmed that the inaugural 2026 CUPRA Raval Madrid E-Prix will feature PIT BOOST.
PIT BOOST is a quick charging stop that allows drivers to gain extra energy during the race. When a driver enters the pit lane, the car is connected to a powerful charger for around 30 seconds.
The battery receives an additional 10 percent of usable energy during the stop. That extra power can help drivers defend their position, launch a late attack and attempt overtakes.
The system was first introduced in the previous season and quickly became one of the most talked-about elements of Formula E racing.
However, the timing of the stop is just as important as the feature itself. Drivers are obligated to make the stop, but the teams must decide when to use it.
The PIT BOOST can give a driver a clear advantage if it is timed to perfection. They could return to the track with clear space and extra power to attack. Poor timing can leave them stuck in traffic.
Formula E’s Rookie Test Showcases the Next Generation of Talent
Formula E is eager to give young drivers the chance to experience the latest generation of machinery.
The series will hold its annual rookie test following the Madrid E-Prix weekend. Each team will field two drivers who have not previously competed in the championship.
The rookies will spend the day testing the powerful GEN3 Evo cars and learning to handle the unique demands of electric racing. It will be their first opportunity to drive a Formula E car in a competitive environment for many of them.
The rookie test is important considering the Formula E grid is packed with experienced drivers. The teams also rarely change drivers, so it is difficult for fresh talent to break into the championship.
The test gives teams a chance to see how young drivers perform and decide if they might be good enough for a future race seat. History shows that the opportunity can lead to real success.
Several current Formula E drivers, including Cassidy, Norman Nato and Joel Eriksson, first appeared during rookie tests before eventually earning full-time drives.
