Cassidy shines in the rain to win Round 11 in Shanghai for Jaguar
Nick Cassidy stormed to a commanding victory in Round 11 of the 2025 ABB FIA Formula E World Championship on Sunday, mastering treacherous wet conditions at the Shanghai International Circuit to secure his first win of the season for Jaguar TCS Racing.
Starting from pole, Cassidy led from lights to flag in a race defined by heavy rain, low visibility, and critical energy management. The result provides a significant boost for Jaguar in the teams’ standings and reignites Cassidy’s drivers’ title ambitions after a string of near misses in recent rounds.
Rain began falling heavily just before the start, turning the already technical Shanghai layout into a high-risk challenge. Cassidy adapted best, building a lead early and maintaining it despite two Full Course Yellow periods that bunched the field back together.
Behind Cassidy, Porsche’s Pascal Wehrlein delivered a determined drive to finish second, keeping his title hopes alive with a solid haul of points. Wehrlein showed precision and patience, navigating visibility issues and water-logged sections of the track while fending off attacks from Jean-Éric Vergne, who followed up Saturday’s second place with another podium in third for DS Penske.
There was heartbreak again for championship leader Oliver Rowland. After starting 17th, the Nissan driver made early gains but was hampered by energy management issues and struggled to break into the top 10. Ultimately finishing 13th and outside the points, Rowland’s once-dominant lead in the standings shrank, though he still holds a 68-point advantage over Wehrlein.
Elsewhere, McLaren’s Taylor Barnard continued to impress with a solid sixth-place finish, reinforcing his reputation as the standout rookie of the 2025 season. Nissan’s Dan Ticktum, coming off a sensational fourth in Round 10, endured a more subdued afternoon, finishing 12th after struggling to manage energy in the closing stages.
Jaguar team principal James Barclay praised Cassidy’s performance, calling it “one of the most complete drives we’ve seen in wet conditions.” The win breaks Cassidy’s drought and signals Jaguar’s return to form just in time for the Jakarta and Berlin double-headers that will decide the season.
The wet weather added an extra layer of unpredictability to the Shanghai weekend, and with just four races remaining, the championship remains wide open. Cassidy’s triumph adds yet another name to the growing list of race winners in what’s becoming one of the most competitive seasons in Formula E history.
With momentum shifting between DS Penske, Jaguar, Porsche, and Nissan, the all-electric series heads to Jakarta with everything still to play for. Round 12 takes place on July 6, and the grid knows one thing for certain—there are no easy wins in Formula E.
