EV charging platform Bonnet raises close to £1 million in funding round

Electric vehicle charging firm Bonnet has raised almost £1 million in a funding round led by Ascension Ventures.

The app-based charging platform raised £920,000 in an equity funding round which also saw investment from Imperial College London and environmental tech firm, APX. Bonnet was also awarded a £70,000 grant from Innovate UK and the Office for Zero Emission Vehicles.

The funding will be used to accelerate Bonnet’s growth by expanding its team and its network of chargepoint operators. Currently, the platform includes the use of Shell Recharge, EVBox, Franklin Energy, Alfa Power, ESB, Allego, Fastned and char.gy.

Bonnet co-founder and CEO, Patrick Reich, said: “By expanding our offering this year, Bonnet can become the top resource for drivers looking for reliable real-time chargepoint data and simple EV payments: we’re committed to ensuring EV drivers never overpay again.”

Founded in 2019, Bonnet offers drivers real-time updates on charger availability, so its customers know which of its 1,400 locations in the UK are ready to use. The company is also aiming to have access to 70% of all charging points in the UK by the end of the year.

The app also offers its users cheaper charging rates, which can be rolled over into the next month of their subscription, as well as access to semi-private and private chargers for app users.
