Skoda begins full production of all-electric Elroq SUV

Skoda has started full-scale manufacturing of its all-electric compact Elroq SUV at its main factory in Mlada Boleslav, Czechia.

The Elroq is built on the bespoke EV MEB platform developed by Skoda’s parent company, Volkswagen. The Czech carmaker has partially moved production of its best-selling ICE Octavia to its Kvasiny facility to free up space to manufacture the Elroq.

Skoda estimates that the decision will allow it to build up to 600 Elroqs per day. The Mlada Boleslav plant in Skoda’s home city will also produce the battery systems for the Elroq and the recently updated Enyaq.

In 2024, the factory reached the milestone of one million battery systems produced for the wider Volkswagen Group.

Andreas Dick, Škoda board member for production and logistics, commented: “The production launch of our new Elroq compact SUV at our main plant is a great accomplishment for the entire team. I would like to thank all my colleagues for their dedication in preparing for this milestone.

“By sharing the assembly line with the Enyaq along with the local production of MEB platform battery systems, this creates significant synergies in production and cost efficiency, which ultimately benefits our customers.

“By producing this key model at our headquarters, we are reaffirming the crucial strategic role of the Mladá Boleslav plant as the heart of our brand.”

The Elroq is Skoda’s first compact SUV EV, and starts at £31,500 in the UK for the entry-level Elroq 50 model, which produces 232 miles of range from its 59kWh battery.

A mid-tier trim level Elroq Edition 50 with the same battery and range is available from £34,450. The car comes with extras including heated front seats and steering wheel, wireless charging, and keyless entry.

Skoda has also announced that an Elroq Edition 85 model with a larger 82kWh battery and a 360-mile range will be made available later in the year alongside a flagship SportLine trim. Arrival dates and prices have yet to be confirmed for the UK.
