Volkswagen brings back e-up! and simplifies ID.3 range
Volkswagen has made significant changes to its EV offerings, with the return of the e-up! and changes to the ID.3 lineup.
The manufacturer had previously stopped taking orders of the e-up! at the end of 2020 as delivery times grew to 16 months as a result of the car’s popularity.
Production continued throughout 2021 to process the order backlog and with 30,800 deliveries, this took the e-up! to second place among Germany’s most popular electric vehicles across brands last year.
Now that the order backlog has been processed successfully, the model from the segment below the ID.3 is available to order again in Germany and will gradually be rolled out in other European markets.
However, as Volkswagen continues to battle with the “still-volatile” semiconductor market, the Group has simplified its ID.3 offering in order to cope with demand.
In order to shorten lead times, VW is now only offering the ID.3 Pro Performance Life model in the UK, which starts £35,835 with a limited number of options available.
Volkswagen said: “Due to very high demand for the all-electric Volkswagen ID.3, combined with the still-volatile semiconductor supply situation, delivery times for this popular model are currently much longer than usual.
“Therefore, in order to minimise the waiting period for a new car, Volkswagen has temporarily simplified the ID.3 model range in some markets.”
