Vauxhall cuts Corsa Electric price by £5,500 with new Yes Edition

Vauxhall has announced a new more affordable version of the Corsa Electric supermini, making it one of the cheapest electric cars in the UK.

The Corsa Electric Yes Edition will be available to order exclusively online from April, priced at £26,895 – a £5,550 reduction on the current Design Edition.

The move brings the Corsa’s price below that of the MG4 and Fiat 500e and makes it one of the most affordable new EVs. Only the Smart EQ fortwo, which is only available from stock, and the Citroen Ami – not technically a car – are cheaper.

The Yes Edition is powered by Vauxhall’s older battery and motor combination to keep costs down. That means a 134bhp motor at the front wheels and 50kWh battery that offers up to 221 miles of range. More expensive versions of the Corsa get a 152bhp motor and newer 51kWh battery with 249 miles of range.

As part of a wider deal with Tesco, buyers of the new Corsa Electric Yes Edition will be able to enjoy a year’s free public charging at Tesco stores.

On the surface, Yes Edition cars come in an exclusive Record Red colour, although white, black and grey are also available. The new model borrows styling from the sporty GS specification, with a gloss black finish to the roof, badges, mirror cases and 16-inch alloy wheels.

Inside, there are sports-style front seats with red accents and a 10-inch touchscreen with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Yes Edition models also feature a seven-inch digital instrument display, automatic lights and wipers, climate control, LED headlights with high beam assist, keyless entry and start, and rear parking sensors. An array of driver-assistance tech including cruise control and lane departure warning with lane keep assist are also standard.

The announcement comes on the same day Renault revealed a new cheaper version of the Scenic E-Tech. That also uses a smaller battery and less powerful motor than previous versions to cut costs.

James Taylor, managing director of Vauxhall, commented: “With the Corsa Electric Yes Edition, we are bringing our successful ‘Yes, of Corsa’ campaign to the roads, offering an accessible new version of Corsa Electric with sporty GS styling.

“Vauxhall is committed to democratising access to electric vehicles, by offering an electric version of every car and van we offer by the end of this year and through initiatives like our Electric Streets of Britain campaign to improve the UK’s on-street residential charging infrastructure.”
