Legal specialists offer advice to accelerate EV chargepoint rollout

Trenches Law firm has launched a service to provide organisations with legal advice to progress electric vehicle charge point installations.

The firm believes its service will help companies prepare for a greener future and will accelerate a transition over to electric vehicles.

It claims that a vital area in making these next steps a reality for the UK is ensuring a wayleave agreement is in place. This is the permission required for installing cables and charge points legally.

This follows the Department for Transport’s £400 million ‘Road to Zero’ Charging Infrastructure Investment Fund and the Government’s planned phasing out new sales of petrol and diesel vehicles by 2030 and hybrids by 2035.

Trenches Law managing director and co-founder Sharon McDermott said: “Wayleaves are often an incredibly complex and time-consuming process, and there’s no question that if the EV sector is to grow at the speed it needs to, these agreements must be in place.

“We have a collective responsibility to care for our environment and we’re determined to utilise our knowledge to support landowners, housing associations, local authorities, EV providers and organisations with fleet vehicles to complete applications and drive towards a greener future.”

Having launched its intuitive automated wayleave solution in September 2020, Trenches Law holds training sessions to help companies increase their knowledge in this niche area, with attendees including Swish Fibre, Airband and Converged.

The team also provides commercial legal counsel – including contract negotiations, drafting agreements, and applying for Code powers – alongside critical telecoms advice.
