5 reasons your next car should be electric

Are you in the market for a new car? Have you considered going all electric?

If you’re new to the EV market or you’re already an EV owner, we’ve put together the top 5 reasons why you should invest in an electric car! From environmental benefits to low running costs, an EV could help to super charge your life!

1.      Better for the environment

The main selling point of buying an EV is their less harmful impact on the environment. Eletric cars don’t have a petrol or diesel engine present and instead replaces it with an electric motor. Petrol and diesel engines release harmful fumes into the environment when you drive and they can contribute to global warming, climate change and affect human health. An electric powered car releases 0 fumes and instead fuelled by lithium batteries which can be recharged through the vehicle itself or by plugging it into a power source. In order to tackle the harm which comes from petrol and diesel engines, they will be banned in the UK from 2035. After this, you’ll only be able to buy an EV from new.

2.      Spread the cost

One thing which puts EV car buyers off is their higher purchase price. EVs can be more expensive to buy outright because they use newer, more advanced technologies which can be costly. However, there are now many options for financing an EV too. Hire purchase cars and PCP finance EVs are beneficial as you can spread the cost of owning an EV into affordable monthly payments. It’s worth nothing, before you can progress with finance, you may need to pass a credit check and meet affordability criteria first. It can be harder to obtain finance if you have a low credit score or low income.

3.      Low running costs

Don’t let the higher purchase price of an EV put you off! Many EV drivers argue the price is outweighed by lower running costs. Electric cars can offer low running costs because it costs considerably less to recharge your car with electricity than it does to refuel it with petrol or diesel. The cheapest and easiest way to recharge an EV is to have a designated charge point installed at your home and by charging the car overnight whilst the electricity grid is at its lowest. In the long run, EVs also tend to offer lower maintenance costs too as there are fewer moving parts inside the vehicle.

4.      Smooth and enjoyable ride

If you’ve already made the switch to an all-electric vehicle, you may have noticed how smooth and quiet they are to drive. There are no noisy engines involved and most EVs are automatic cars so there’s no annoying gear changing either. The electric motor can transfer torque straight to the wheels so they feel very responsive and smooth to drive.

5.      Improved fuel economy

Electric cars are much more efficient than traditional petrol or diesel cars. The electricity is converted straight into power and accelerates the vehicle quicker. Eletric cars also come with large batteries which give you emission free driving. The average EV can offer around 300 miles on a single charge. The average UK commuter travels around 20 miles per day so in theory, you could drive for 15 days before having to recharge again!
