Xpeng joins Europe-wide Plugsurfing programme

Chinese carmaker Xpeng has teamed up with Plugsurfing to provide its customers with access to over 940,000 charging points across Europe.

Plugsurfing is one of the largest EV charging service providers in Europe

, bringing together 500 charge point operators across 27 countries. The agreement will see Plugsurfing provide Xpeng with its Drive API interface to improve the user experience for the Chinese manufacturer’s European client base.

The tie-up gives Xpeng drivers in Europe access to charging data including real-time availability, the number of empty charging ports, pricing, and one-click payment via the Xpeng app or a Plugsurfing charge card, which comes free with the purchase of a new Xpeng.

In-line with the Plugsurfing agreement, users are only billed for the electricity they use and parking costs, with no additional fees. On top of charger information, Plugsurfing’s API allows Xpeng drivers to plan long distance journeys around the charging network, and has also introduced a voice recognition feature.

Founded in 2014, Xpeng debuted on the European car market in 2021 in Norway. It has six expanded to an additional 16 European countries, both in and out of the European Union. Since arriving in Europe, Xpeng has won several awards.

Last year, its P7 sedan scooped top spot for the ‘Best Electric Car of 2024’ at the fourth ‘Electric Car of the Year’ awards in Spain. In 2023, the Xpeng G9 SUV was named ‘SUV of the Year and Family Car of the Year’ in Denmark’s ‘Electric Car of the Year’ awards.

At present, the only Xpeng model for sale in the UK is its mid-sized G6 SUV, which comes with a five-year (75,000-mile) vehicle warranty, and an eight-year (100,000 mile) battery warranty. The G6 is available with either a 270-mile 66kWh battery, or a 354-mile 87.5kWh unit.

Priced from £39,990, the G6 also undercuts the government’s recently-announced Expensive Car Supplement on EVs over £40,000.
