Volkswagen ID 3 gets new look and new name: meet the VW ID 3 Neo
VW has confirmed that its heavily updated ID 3 will be renamed the ID 3 Neo, when it makes its official debut in mid-April this year.
Based on the existing ID 3 but significantly revised inside and out, the VW ID 3 Neo will run on Volkswagen’s latest software stack, promising traffic light detection and one-pedal driving.
Like all other new VW ID models, the ID 3 Neo comes with vehicle-to-load (V2L) functionality, which can power external devices up to 3.6kW via an interior 230V socket, and, through a separate adapter, the main charging port.
Upon arrival, the ID 3 Neo will be at the forefront of Volkswagen’s renewed and expanded ID line-up, along with the ID Polo, ID Polo GTI, and the ID Cross. Each vehicle will have arrived by the end of 2026.
All latest-gen ID models come with Volkswagen’s new Innovision infotainment platform, while an app store has been added to the system, allowing owners to purchase functions and services related to audio, video streaming, parking, charging, and gaming from their vehicle or smartphone.
To supplement the traditional key, a new digital vehicle key is now standard on the ID range, meaning the car can be controlled via a smart device.
All software and hardware are designed to meet new or future regulations in Europe and the United States.
Upon arrival, VW’s board member for technical development, Kai Grünitz said the ID 3 Neo will build on Volkswagen’s electric revival.
Following a difficult start to its EV programme, the German giant has since reversed its fortunes, with the ID 3, ID 4, and ID 7 ranking among some of Europe’s most popular electric cars.
“The new software generation brings more performance and an even better customer experience to the ID. models,” said Grünitz. “The new Volkswagen electric models in the small and compact vehicle segments – ID Polo, ID Polo GTI, [and] ID Cross – will also soon be launched on the market with these new innovations, offering more flexibility in everyday life and for leisure activities.”
Pricing and battery specifications for the VW ID 3 Neo are yet to be announced, and it’s not clear whether the facelift will bring hardware updates under the skin or will retain the existing powertrain offerings.
