Renault 5 Turbo 3E to make dynamic debut at Goodwood Festival of Speed
The radical Renault 5 Turbo 3E will tear up the world famous Goodwood hill this summer as it makes its UK dynamic debut.
The production version of the “mini-supercar” will be taking to the track at the 2026 Goodwood Festival of Speed as part of the French brand’s EV showcase.
Set to make multiple runs up the famous 1.16-mile hillclimb over the four-day event, the Renault 5 Turbo 3E is the most powerful Renault ever, producing 547bhp and a ridiculous 3,540lb ft from its two in-wheel rear motors.
Its carbon superstructure keeps weight to 1,450kg – the same as the regular 148bhp Renault 5 – and allows it to sprint from 0-62mph in 3.5 seconds.
With a design inspired by the R5 Turbos of the 1980s, the Turbo 3E features wild rally car-style bodywork and massive scope for personalisation. Just 1,980 examples will be made – a reference to the year the original Renault 5 Turbo was launched – and each will cost at least £140,000.
Fabrice Cambolive, Renault’s CEO, said: “Renault 5 Turbo 3E embodies the boldness and spirit of innovation that have always defined Renault.
“Bringing the production-ready Renault 5 Turbo 3E to the Goodwood Festival of Speed for its UK dynamic debut is the perfect way to celebrate this spirit of performance and excitement with enthusiasts.”
Alongside the wild super hatch, Renault will showcase its new Twingo city car and the Renault 4 Plein Sud.
The Twingo is due to go on sale in the UK in early 2027 and, like the Turbo 3E, is inspired by an earlier Renault model. Its cute looks and innovative interior draw on the pioneering design of the original 1990s Twingo and aim to be a “game-changer” in the under-served EV A-segment.
Set to cost less than £20,000, it features an 80bhp motor and 27.5kWh battery capable of up to 163 miles.
Just like the Twingo, the Renault 4 Plein Sud revives design of the past with its sliding canvas roof. Bringing a modern twist to the original rag-top Renault 4 design, the updated version fits Renault’s award-winning compact SUV with an electrically powered 80x92cm canvas sunroof. On sale now with first deliveries this summer, the new model costs from £27,445 after the Electric Car Grant.
