New Alpine A110 to debut APP platform at heart of all-electric future strategy
Alpine has announced that its all-new, electric-only Alpine Performance Platform (APP) will be the cornerstone of its future model line-up, starting with the A110 later this year.
As part of parent company Renault’s futuREady strategy announcement, the APP will underpin the A110, as well as yet-to-be-named upcoming coupé, convertible (spider) and 2+2 models.
The stiff APP platform is built entirely from aluminium to keep weight low and boasts innovative bonded and riveted technologies to support the structure and lightweight design.
Alpine confirms that the APP has a 40:60 weight distribution to maintain the “balance of a true sports car”. The all-electric A110 will come with two battery packs to retain its instantly recognisable profile.
The APP architecture is also 800V compatible, promising ultra-rapid charging times. To ensure performance aligns with Alpine’s history, it is also delivering a twin e-motor, 3-in-1 e-axle to deliver “exceptional torque and performance with ultra-fast control”.
In addition to two new fully-aluminium suspension set-ups, the APP platform has two new integrated steering and braking systems, plus Alpine Active Torque Vectoring – AATV.
The system debuted on the A390 fastback and delivers varying torque levels to the right and left wheels every 10 milliseconds to ensure a lightweight-feeling driving experience.
During the most recent strategy announcement, Alpine CEO, Philippe Krief, promised a raft of new technologies as Alpine seeks to cement itself as the world’s leading French sports car brand.
“Our ambition is to become the leading French sports speciality brand in the world, offering the best driver’s cars of the EV era. We will do this by constantly embracing new technologies and bonding them with Alpine’s DNA,” he said. “First, we are focusing on our growth goals with the Alpine A290 and the Alpine A390, allowing us to attract new customers.
“Then, just as today the Alpine A110 is the foundation of our brand, showcasing our commitment to deliver high-technology products, we will offer the first true EV sports car to the market. It will be true to Alpine’s DNA and outperform the best of today’s combustion sports cars, thanks to the Alpine Performance Platform.
“Beyond this, by remaining agile and flexible, Alpine will be able to react in real time to market evolutions; our strategy is as adaptable as it is robust.”
Founded in 1955, Alpine relaunched in 2018 with the A110. Since then, it has grown its product portfolio to three cars, with the A290 hot hatch and the A390. Its dealer network has since expanded to 170 retailers across 25 markets globally.
