New DS No4 targets VW ID.3 with all-electric powertrain
DS has announced that its heavily updated DS No4 mid-sized hatchback will come with a fully-electric powertrain for the first time when it debuts in the first quarter of 2026, positioning it firmly as a rival to the Volkswagen ID.3.
says that the DS No4 EV’s front-mounted motor makes 213bhp, and is paired with a 58.3kWh battery pack, which provides a claimed 280 miles of range on the European WLTP cycle.
When it comes to charging, the DS No4 can charge up to 120kW DC, meaning its batteries can be charged from 20% – 80% in around 30 minutes. Alongside the all-electric DS No4, the plug-in hybrid version rivalling the equivalent VW Golf Mk.8.5 has been updated.
A new, larger 14.6kWh battery pack gives the DS No4 up to 50 miles worth of electric range. A 109bhp e-motor is integrated into a new seven-speed, dual-clutch transmission, which is mated to a 176bhp, turbocharged four-cylinder petrol motor. Combined, the PHEV DS No4 makes 222bhp.
Meanwhile, an entry-level non-PHEV version has a 143bhp, 1.2-litre three cylinder engine with a small e-motor and a six-speed dual-clutch gearbox. DS says that the car can run on 50% e-powered in urban environments.
The three powertrain choices have an effect on the DS No4’s bootspace, with 430 litres for the hybrid, 390 litres for the EV, and 360 litres for the PHEV. The latter’s smaller load space is due to the addition of batteries.
Across the board, the No4 benefits from a variety of styling and tech updates. The front end of the car has been refreshed, with new lights, grille, and bonnet designed to reflect the visuals of the brand’s flagship DS No8, while a lightbar extends the width of the nose.
Around the back, the tail lights are connected via a darkened chrome strip. New 19-inch wheels are standard, while 20-inchers are available as an extra. The larger of the two, however, will affect range.
Step inside, and the DS No4 now benefits from a larger, 10-inch driver display alongside the existing 10-inch touchscreen, plus an additional touchscreen positioned on the centre console.
