New brands OMODA and JAECOO shine at Goodwood Festival of Speed

The Goodwood Festival of Speed witnessed the impressive debut of JAECOO, a new premium off-road brand, marking its first public appearance in Europe.

The spotlight was on JAECOO’s inaugural model, the JAECOO 7, which combines global craftsmanship to set a new standard for modern off-road vehicles. The JAECOO 7 made a dynamic debut, tackling the iconic hill climb under the skilled hands of former 1960s F1 driver and 1970 Le Mans winner, Richard Attwood. Reflecting the brand’s philosophy of evolving traditional values for the modern era, the JAECOO 7 effortlessly navigated the 1,900-metre course.

The JAECOO stand, located on ‘The Grid,’ drew hundreds of visitors on the first day eager to see the new model, with thousands more expected throughout the event. Sharing the spotlight with JAECOO was sister brand OMODA, which showcased its flagship model, the all-electric E5. Both brands’ models are featured in the ‘First Glance’ paddock, with the OMODA E5 also displayed in the ‘Electric Avenue’ zone. Visitors can expect to see demonstration vehicles in showrooms later this summer.

Adding a unique touch, OMODA introduced an intelligent robot dog named Dorry, entertaining attendees with flips, rolls, and paw-shakes.

Premium and Practical Offerings

The JAECOO 7 (pictured) is designed for both on- and off-road adventures, featuring a 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine and seven driving modes, including Sand, Mud, Snow, and Off-Road. It will also offer a plug-in hybrid (PHEV) version with a targeted EV-only range of 60 miles.

OMODA’s 186 PS 1.6-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine in the OMODA 5 stands out with its dynamic fastback shape and Art in Motion design philosophy. The interior boasts two 10.25-inch high-resolution screens, multi-colour lighting, wireless phone charging, and a comprehensive suite of ADAS safety technologies.

The all-electric OMODA E5, powered by a 150 kW (204 hp) electric motor and a 61 kWh battery, offers a WLTP range of 257 miles. With optimised aerodynamics, the E5 features class-leading noise reduction and low drag, allowing a 30 to 80% charge in just 28 minutes with up to 80 kW charging capability.

Pre-reservations for the OMODA 5 are now open, with refundable deposits ensuring priority placement when prices are announced and order books open. The first UK deliveries of the OMODA 5 will begin in late July, followed by the OMODA E5 in early September. The JAECOO 7 is expected to arrive in late 2024 or early 2025.
