Mazda has confirmed that its new CX-6e SUV will cost from £42,990 when it goes on sale in the UK in the coming months.
The second in Mazda’s new wave of EVs, the CX-6e is an all-electric equivalent to the popular CX-5 and is set to compete with the likes of the Skoda Enyaq, Hyundai Ioniq 5 and, of course, the Tesla Model Y in the electric C-SUV segment.
Unveiled at the Brussels Motor Show earlier this year, the Mazda CX-6e features a 78kWh battery delivering up to 300 miles of range and 200kW DC charging for rapid top-ups. All versions of the CX-6e use a rear-mounted motor producing 254bhp and 214lb ft, delivering a 0-62mph time of 7.9 seconds.
Like the 6e saloon, the CX-6e is the result of a tie-up between Mazda and China’s Changan. Both vehicles are based on Changan’s EPA1 platform and built in its Nanjing factory.
When it goes on sale this winter, the CX-6e will be offered in two straightforward trim levels – Takumi, priced from £42,990 and Takumi Plus, priced from £45,350.
Both versions feature heated front seats finished in Mazda’s Maztex synthetic leather. Takumi buyers have the option of Stone or Black finishes, while Takumi Plus adds the option of two-tone Amethyst and White. All models also feature a comprehensive driver assistance suite, including smart brake support, lane keeping assist and blind spot monitoring.
Pointing to its Chinese roots, a 26.45-inch central touchscreen with wireless smartphone mirroring is standard, offering a split layout option for driver and passenger controls. All variants also offer a head-up display for the driver.
Takumi models come with 19-inch wheels as standard and can be upgraded to 21-inch wheels for £1,000, while the flagship Takumi Plus gets 21-inch wheels as standard. The higher grade also gets digital rear-view and side cameras, and heated and cooled outer rear seats controlled via a rear touchscreen.
Buyers will be able to choose from seven exterior colours, including the “hero” Nightfall Violet shade, which shifts from purple to near-black depending on the light, and which complements the amethyst interior option on Takumi Plus models.
