Long Range Nissan Micra now qualifies for £3,750 electric car grant

The all-new Nissan Micra now qualifies for the full £3,750 Electric Car Grant (ECG) thanks to its new long-range battery.

Capable of up to 257 miles on a full charge, the Micra 52kWh is now priced from £23,245 for the mid-tier Advance trim and £26,115 for the range-topping Evolve, with the £3,750 ECG applied.

With its 196-mile range, the smaller 40kWh battery car also qualifies for the lower £1,500 ECG, bringing starting prices down to £21,495 for the entry-level Engage model, and £23,495 for the Advance.

The larger-batteried Micra has fallen under the ‘band one’ £3,750 threshold, as Nissan fits the car with a new Europe-sourced battery. A car is classified as ‘band one’ or ‘band two’ based on UK Government-verified Science-Based Targets for carbon emissions associated with vehicle and battery production.

In short, the lower the emissions and the greener the vehicle’s credentials, the more likely it is to qualify for the band one ECG. Note that the ECG is only available on cars priced up to £37,000.

On the back of the news, Nissan GB managing director, James Taylor, said: “Our new battery supplier means our longer-range Micra 52kWh now qualifies for the full £3,750 Electric Car Grant, ensuring great value for money for our customers.

“It also means that both of our new model launches so far this year – Micra and Leaf – are available with the maximum EV grant discount, demonstrating Nissan’s continued leadership in providing accessible and exciting electric cars for people keen to switch to zero emission motoring.”

Unlike the Leaf, which is built at Nissan’s factory in Sunderland, North East England, the sixth-generation Micra is built at the same ElectiCity plant in northern France as its sister car, the Renault 5.

The Micra and the Leaf are the first two models to be born from Nissan’s renewed electrification strategy. A replacement for the EV-only Ariya is also expected in the near future.
