Leapmotor has slashed £1,500 from the price of its tiny T03 city EV as competition between cut-price electric cars hots up.
To mark the first anniversary of its in-house Leap-Grant, the Sino-European brand has doubled the size of the discount to £3,000. That brings the T03’s starting on-the-road price down to £12,995.
Damien Dally, Leapmotor UK’s managing director, said: “We’re delighted to be doubling the Leap-Grant on the T03. While other cars in the segment might come close on price, they don’t compare when it comes to the level of technology and specification we offer on the T03 as standard.”
Dally’s comments come as Dacia also announced a price cut on its T03 rival the Spring. The Romanian budget brand’s electric city car now undercuts the Leapmotor and starts at £12,240 for the basic Expression 65 model, and £12,995 for the higher-spec Extreme 100.
However, Leapmotor emphasised the higher specification of its one-grade T03. Every model gets 15-inch alloy wheels, LED lights, a panoramic sunroof and keyless start. Adaptive cruise control, a 10.1-inch touchscreen with smartphone mirroring, and a reversing camera are also standard for the £12,995 price.
The T03 is fractionally less powerful than the equivalent-priced Spring, with a 95bhp motor rather than the Spring 99bhp unit. However, the Leapmotor’s 37.3kWh battery offers 165 miles of range – 30 more than the Dacia manages.
The price cut comes as Leapmotor International – a joint project between Stellantis and China’s Leapmotor – registered its 10,000th car in the UK less than two years after its arrival in the country.
