InstaVolt extends off-peak charging hours
Public charging provider InstaVolt has extended its off-peak hours, offering EV drivers cheaper charging for longer.
Motorists can now access the lower 54p/kWh rate between 9pm and 7am, giving them an extra two hours of the lower price.
InstaVolt launched its off-peak offer in August last year, cutting around one third off its regular cost of 85p – one of the most expensive in the industry.
The off-peak rate is available to drivers using the InstaVolt app and applies across all 1,600+ of the firm’s rapid and ultra-rapid chargers.
Delvin Lane, CEO of InstaVolt, said: “We’re always listening to our customers, and they told us they wanted off-peak pricing to start earlier and finish later.
“By extending our off-peak window, we’ve made it even easier for drivers to access cheaper charging, whether they’re finishing work, setting off early, or simply looking to cut costs.
“We hope that by making public charging as affordable and accessible as possible it will encourage more drivers to make the switch to electric.”
The extension comes as Instavolt continues to expand its network of charging hubs. Its next ‘super-hub’ is due to open near Winchester in March. Located near the A34 and close to the M3, the site will feature 44 ultra-rapid chargers, making it InstaVolt’s largest superhub to date. It will feature dedicated bays for larger vehicles and those towing and will use on-site solar panels and battery storage to reduce reliance on the grid. It will also offer a café and 24/7 toilet facilities, a dedicated dog-walking area and children’s play park.
The UK’s public charging network continues to grow rapidly. Figures from Zapmap show that the number of devices grew 34% throughout 2024, with a focus on more rapid and ultra-rapid chargers and hubs like the Winchester facility. Ultra-rapid provision grew 84% and the number of hubs – sites with at least six rapid or ultra-rapid chargers – doubled from 264 at the end of 2023 to 537 at the end of 2024.
