Hyundai Inster set for UK-wide roadshow ahead of launch

British drivers are being offered an early peek at the new Hyundai Inster this autumn.

The new supermini-sized SUV was announced in June and is due to go on sale later this year, with deliveries beginning in the new year.

However, ahead of the car’s official launch in the UK, Hyundai is taking its newest EV on a tour of Britain for potential customers to explore it.

The 86-stop roadshow will visit Hyundai dealerships from Inverness to Taunton, hoping to tempt buyers into the Korean firm’s smallest EV so far.

Based on modified version of the Korean market petrol-powered Capser, the 3.8-metre long Inster will be positioned between traditional A-segment city cars and larger B-segment compact models. That’s likely to put it into competition with the Citroen E-C3 and Vauxhall Frontera as well as the budget-focused Dacia Spring.

Hyundai says the Inster will provide class-leading passenger space and a best-in-segment range courtesy of a 49kWh battery and 114bhp motor. A lower-spec model using a 42kWh battery and 96bhp motor will also be offered, with an expected range of 186 miles.

Hyundai says the long-range car should offer 4.1 miles/kWh efficiency and up to 220 miles when fitted with 15-inch steel wheels. Both versions get 120kW DC charging and vehicle-to-load capability, with a heat pump and battery heating system offered as optional extras.

Ashley Andrew, president of Hyundai and Genesis UK, said: “The Inster will be the most compact member of the Hyundai electric vehicle family, and proves that good things really do come in small packages.

“Its exceptional capabilities and advanced equipment will challenge expectations of what a small EV can deliver, and we have been hugely encouraged by the interest it has generated in the UK since it was revealed.

“Customers recognise Hyundai’s pedigree in electrification, with the Ioniq 5 and Ioniq 6 both winning World Car of the Year in recent years, and are keen to know more about the Inster. This exciting British roadshow will allow them to see for themselves what a desirable and innovative vehicle the Inster is.”
