Harrow installs 500 new on-street EV charge points across borough with char.gy
The London Borough of Harrow has partnered with Charge Point Operator (CPO) char.gy to deliver 500 new on-street EV charge points.
The scheme is aimed at motorists who do not have a home charger, with char.gy offering charging speeds from 7kW to 22kW. From 7am to 12am, the charg.gy Day Tariff will charge users 59p per kilowatt hour; the Night Saver Tariff is priced at 39p/kWh.
From 2023 to 2026, the latter was named the UK’s most affordable public charge point. Both can be paid for using Apple Pay or Google Pay.
The charge points will be fitted to lamp columns, with 225 already installed. The additional 275 will be put in place by October 8, 2026.
On the back of the news, char.gy CEO, John Lewis, commented: “We’re delighted to be expanding our network in Harrow with 500 new charge points.
“This expansion will make a real difference for everyday drivers: people who live without a driveway, those switching to electric for the first time, and anyone who wants reliable, affordable charging close to home.
“Providing local charging that people can depend on gives drivers confidence to switch to electric, and that’s what this rollout is all about. We look forward to working with the council, residents and local communities as these chargers go live.”
Meanwhile, councillor David Ashton, the Cabinet Member for Finance and Highways described them as “a big step forward for residents who drive electric and for anyone thinking about making the switch.
“More on-street charging means less time searching for a plug and more confidence for drivers every day. Charging is easy, affordable and flexible, with clear pricing and cheaper overnight rates – perfect for topping up while you sleep,” he added.
The extra 500 chargers will build on Harrow’s existing 100 on-street chargers, which have been backed by government funding, including financing from the On-Street Residential Chargepoint Scheme (ORCS).
