Genesis GV60 update brings ‘gear shifts’ and drift mode

Genesis has given its GV60 a midlife update bringing extra range, refreshed looks and more “driver-focused” functions.

Among the features intended to create a more engaging drive are virtual gear shifts and a dedicated drift mode.

The VGS technology is borrowed from parent company Hyundai and mimics that used in the Ioniq 5 N and the new Kia EV6 and EV9 GT models. Using clever motor control management the system can mimic a six-speed sequential gearbox, complete with rev counter and limiter, allowing drivers to shift using the car’s brake regeneration paddles. The surprisingly effective system is backed up with a sound generator and “tacile” feedback.

Also new for the 2025 GV60 are the option of an electronic limited slip differential on twin-motor models and a hidden drift mode. Accessed through the complicated process of pulling both brake regen paddles for three seconds, this loosens the car’s traction systems to allow oversteery silliness on closed circuits.

The GV60’s motor configuration remains unchanged, so two-wheel-drive versions use a 226bhp rear-mounted motor while all-wheel-drive models get twin motors for a total of 483bhp and 516lb ft, resulting in a 0-62mph time of just 4 seconds. New for 2025 is an 84kWh battery which offers up to 348 miles of range – 27 more than before.

Ultra-rapid charging updates mean a 10-80% charge in just 18 minutes is still possible.

The new GV60 gets upgraded four-pot front brakes as standard and a new “Smart Regenerative Braking System 3.0”. This uses live traffic flow and navigation data to automatically adjust braking force for better efficiency.

On the surface, the GV60 gets new smoother bumpers and new 20- and 21-inch alloy wheel designs to aid aerodynamic improvements. It also gets extended colour coding on the wheelarches, bumper inserts and rear diffuser for a neater look.

Inside, there’s a new 27-inch panoramic digital display shared with the recently updated GV70 SUV and G80 saloon. New software allows users to stream content from connected entertainment services, including Bloomberg, Disney+ and Netflix. There’s also a new three-spoke steering wheel and extended choice of interior colour palettes.

Optional extras for the 2025 GV60 include a Dolby Atmos-equipped Bang & Olfusen sound system, a camera-based digital rear-view mirror and camera-assisted adaptive LED headlights.

Genesis hasn’t indicated prices for the new GV60, but orders open on July 1. We’d expect a minor lift from the previous £54,000 starting point.
