BYD Sealion 7 UK price and launch date confirmed

The new BYD Sealion 7 SUV will cost from just under £45,000 when it goes on sale in early 2025.

The Sealion 7 is BYD’s fourth UK model and the third all-electric car in its British line-up. It will sit alongside the Seal saloon at the top of the range, above the Seal U hybrid, Atto 3 SUV and Dolphin hatchback.

Prices will start at £44,990 and the Sealion 7 will be offered in three trim levels with two motor and three battery options.

Entry level Comfort cars will be exclusively rear-wheel drive and use a 308bhp motor and 82.5kWh battery. That allows even the most basic version to reach 62mph in 6.7 seconds and cover up to 300 miles on a charge.

Above the comfort are two all-wheel-drive variants, which both add a 215bhp motor to the front axle for a total output of 523bhp. That provides acceleration from 0-62mph in just 4.5 seconds.

Mid-level Design grade cars, priced from £49,290, use the same battery as the Comfort model, giving a maximum range of 283 miles. The top-grade Excellence, priced from £57,290, comes with a 91.3kWh battery that should return up to 312 miles of range.

Both batteries accept DC charging at up to 230kW, allowing a 10-80% charge in as little as 24 minutes.

At 4.83m long, the Sealion 7 is competing against the Tesla Model Y, Kia EV6 and Volkswagen ID.4, and offers a 520-litre boot, 58-litre front and, BYD claims, enough space on board for five adults.

All versions come with heated seats, dual-zone climate control, a 15.6-inch rotatable screen, 360-degree camera, wireless phone charging, and vehicle-to-load capability. Standard assistance kit includes adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning, front and rear cross traffic alert and cross traffic braking. Design models add 20-inch alloy wheels, and Excellence models feature Nappa leather seats and a Head-Up Display.

BYD’s executive vice president Stella Li said the D-segment SUV was a response to customer tastes and demands in Europe. She commented: We’ve noticed demand for precisely this type of vehicle in Europe, so we’re delighted to introduce the Sealion 7. We’re confident that its mix of SUV design and packaging, Blade Battery technology, range, high performance and generous specification will appeal to many customers across Europe.
