Final development begins on first ever electric AC Cobra
The very first AC Cobra Series 1 electric is undergoing final development work ahead of the delivery of the first customer cars.
Retaining the iconic character of the British two-seater, the electric Cobra has been fitted with an emissions-free electric powertrain capable of delivering 0-62mph in around four seconds.
The car will also have a range of circa 150-miles with a battery capacity of 55 kW, and has a suggested retail price of £138,000, in addition to on the road charges.
The Series 1 electric marks a new chapter in the 120-year history of Cobra, which also announced the Series 4 electric which back in June.
Working with Derby-based technical partner Falcon Electric, the Norfolk-based company is ensuring that the implementation of EV technology into the famous car is in keeping with the personality and performance that has made AC’s original design one of the most imitated manufacturers of all time.
The production of the Series 1 had been delayed due to supply chain issues, however, the engineering team at Cobra said this allowed for extra time to revisit some of the car’s core principles, working on selected enhanced and higher performing parts, such as weight, acceleration and handling, which mean the car will exceed original estimates.
